Join us for a festive spring evening in Gothenburg as we come together to experience two beloved Swedish traditions — the legendary Chalmers Cortège and the vibrant Valborg celebrations!

What’s Happening?

🌸 The Chalmers Cortège
The Cortège is a joyful, satirical parade organized annually by students of Chalmers University of Technology. Dating back to 1909, it started as a spontaneous student procession and has since grown into one of Gothenburg’s most iconic events. Over 1,000 students build elaborate floats that humorously depict major world events, political happenings, and pop culture from the past year — all with a good dose of Swedish wit! Expect creative costumes, marching bands, and a truly unique sense of humor rolling through the city streets.

🔥 Valborg (Walpurgis Night)
Valborg is an ancient Nordic tradition celebrated across Sweden to welcome the arrival of spring. Traditionally, communities gather around large bonfires, sing songs to greet the season, and enjoy lively festivities. In Gothenburg, Valborg night is filled with bonfires, student choirs, music, and a wonderful sense of renewal as we shake off the last of winter.

Plan for the Day:

• 17:00 — Gather for a relaxed picnic. Bring your own food, drinks, and picnic blanket!
• 18:15 — Watch the start of the Chalmers Cortège parade as it winds through central Gothenburg.
• After the Cortège — Head toward one of Gothenburg’s many Valborg bonfires and continue the celebration into the evening!

What to Bring:

• Picnic blanket or camping chairs
• Snacks, food, and drinks (and reusable plates/cups if possible!)
• Warm layers — spring evenings can be chilly
• Good vibes and a big smile!
