Onboarding course

Make sure to check the Onboarding Course. It has all the information you need to be able to navigate your first months in Sweden. The rest of this document is an addition and does not substitute the Onboarding course.

General information

If you want to learn more about Sweden and understand why Swedes are the way they are, sweden.se is a very good webpage to take a look at. At this webpage you can find information and loads of fun facts. For example, they post articles about the average Swede, celebrations, the government, school system, sustainability, Swedish history, gaming, music, what you should think about when moving to Sweden, and so much more. Sweden.se is publicly funded and produced, developed, maintained and operated by the Swedish Institute (SI), which is a public agency.

Another interesting webpage to scroll through is studyinsweden.se. At this webpage you will not only find information about studying, but also about other things such as "the Swedish way", practicalities, healthcare and learning Swedish.

Collective agreements, unions and income insurance

To learn more about the Swedish labour market and how it functions, a good place to start could be to look at informationsverige.se where you can find basic informaiton about what we call "the Swedish model". One of our labour unions called "Unionen" also has loads of helpful information in video format which you can find here.

Sebratec is connected to a collective agreement called "The Innovation Agreement" between the employer organisation "Almega" and the labour unions "Sveriges Ingenjörer", "Unionen" and "Sveriges Arkitekter". To get support from the labour union, you need to pay a membership fee. In most cases you also need to be a member of their labour union for a number of months before you can rely on their support.

Each labour union offers their own option for income insurance (swe. A-kassa). Check out information for the income insurance offered by Unionen, and/or Sveriges Ingengörer.

Cost of living in Sweden

At this webpage, Swedbank (of of the largest Swedish banks) presents the general costs of living in Sweden. Unfortunately this page is not avaliable in English, but by using DeepL we hope it will get easier for you.

Swedish News

The most common news channels in Sweden are for example: Aftonbladet, SVT Nyheter, Svenska Dagbladet, Dagens Nyheter. However, it can be diffucult to acces their information in another language than Swedish. A goos option could therefore be to check out The Local which publishes Swedish news in English, or 8sidor which published new in "easy Swedish".

The Local also produces a podcast called "Sweden in focus" where they discuss the big news and talking points in Sweden as well as explore and explain the big issues that impact life in the country. They also answer their listeners essential questions and look ahead at what’s coming up.
